Love is strong as Fate. This stunningly moving hybrid gospel opera retells the story of Oedipus, using a gospel choir and soloists as the storytellers.  Is it a Classical drama? A Christian parable? A series of R&B love songs? Oedipus fights Fate – and the gospel fights back.

The story so far: man-as-potentate unwittingly kills his own father, marries his mother, they beget children, his daughters are his sisters, and when they find this out, his wife-and-mother kills herself and Oedipus puts out his eyes with the pin of her brooch.  And now the drama begins...

It’s a matter of light and death – the gospel sheds light on Oedipus and redeems him in one of the greatest stories ever told.

Production sponsored by Nancy and Milton Washington
